Running a business solo in Australia comes with its own particular flavour of exhaustion. Not just the standard solopreneur workload. The way everything lands on one desk: every email, every invoice, every client proposal, every social post. Yours.

I've been using Claude in my own business for close to three years now, and I still hear from women who've downloaded the app, tried it twice, felt underwhelmed, and closed the tab. The tools are capable. The way most people are teaching you to use them is the problem.

Most AI content online is written for the US market, by people running large team operations, who treat AI as a volume tool. Post more. Create more. Automate everything. If you're a solopreneur in Melbourne or Brisbane running a service business or an Etsy shop, almost none of that translates.

Here's what does.

Start with one draining task, not a whole system

The mistake most people make is trying to overhaul everything at once. Pick the one thing you dread most: the weekly email, the client proposals, the social captions, the reply to the difficult message sitting in your inbox. Give that one thing to Claude. Get it working well. Then move to the next.

The Australian context matters

A lot of AI templates and tutorials are written for US businesses. American tax rules, US business structures, US-specific platforms. When you're running an Australian business, you're dealing with ATO compliance, Xero or MYOB, GST, and a customer base in a completely different timezone to where most AI content is produced.

Claude handles Australian English natively. You can brief it on ATO record-keeping requirements, ask it to draft a GST-inclusive quote template, or have it help you respond to a difficult client in a tone that doesn't sound American-corporate. These are not complicated prompts. They just require knowing what to ask for.

What solopreneurs actually use Claude for

From the women I work with:

Notice what's not on that list: building elaborate automation systems. Most solopreneurs don't need that. They need the execution layer, the drafting, the reformatting, the first-pass thinking, to get lighter.

The step most people skip

The output you get from Claude is only as good as the context you give it. If you're starting a new chat every time and explaining your business from scratch, you'll keep getting generic responses that sound like they could have been written for anyone.

The change that makes Claude genuinely useful is setting it up with your business context: your voice, your offers, your clients, the things you'd never say. This takes a few hours to do properly, and it pays you back every week after. It's the difference between Claude sounding like you and Claude sounding like a press release.

This is what I help women build inside the Wise Women Use AI community, and in my Hub Install sessions.

Where to start today

The free Claude Starter Kit has the context template I use to brief Claude on a business, plus five prompts for the tasks solopreneurs reach for most. It takes about 20 minutes to get in place.

Running a business alone is hard enough. AI doesn't solve that. But it does mean you're no longer the only one carrying the execution.
