Marketing assistant. Research analyst. Proposal writer. Email manager. Content repurposer. Customer service responder. Social scheduler. That's what it takes to keep a service business running at a pace that actually gets seen. Two years ago, I thought I couldn't have any of that unless I could afford to hire it.
Claude changed that calculation.
You know the days where you finish work and most of what you did wasn't actually the business? Not the thinking, not the relationships, not the strategy. Just the around-it. The admin, the admin-adjacent, the things that needed doing but didn't need to be done by you. That is the solo business experience. All of it lands on your desk. Nobody to hand anything to.
That's what I mean by a team.
Here's what those roles look like in practice.
Marketing assistant. Every week, Claude takes my rough thinking, a sentence, an observation, something I noticed, and turns it into a full content plan for the week. It knows my voice, my pillars, and my audience because I set that context up once inside a Claude Project. (More on that in the Starter Kit.)
Research analyst. When a client raises a question I need to look into, I give Claude the question and some background. Within a few minutes, I have a well-structured summary I can actually use. Not a list of links to go read. The actual information, organised.
Proposal writer. I give Claude the client brief, their challenge, my approach and pricing. It structures the full document. I review, personalise, and send. Last week this saved me about two hours on a proposal I'd otherwise have stared at until Thursday. (And I definitely would have stared at it until Thursday.)
Email manager. The repetitive inbound that used to eat 20 minutes per email is now 5. I've set Claude up to know my enquiry style, my tone, what I offer. I review and send. That's the whole process.
Content repurposer. One newsletter becomes eight pieces of social content. One idea becomes a carousel, a caption, a short script. The thinking happens once. Claude handles the rest. Honestly, this is probably where I save the most time each week.
I've described five roles there. In reality, Claude plays all of them on any given day, sometimes within the same hour. That's the part that still catches me a bit. Not just the time saved. The fact that I'm no longer context-switching between being the marketer, then the admin, then the writer, then the researcher. I do one session. I get a whole week of tasks done. Then I go and do the actual work.
None of this means Claude is doing the work that matters. It doesn't run my relationships, make strategic calls, or replace the part that is actually me. The creative, the expertise, the judgement. That's still mine. What's changed is the execution layer. The drafting, the reformatting, the first pass that used to swallow my afternoons.
A note on setup: I'm not going to tell you this is quick. Setting Claude up to genuinely know your business, your voice, your offers, how you think, what your clients need, takes real time. Hours of it, probably spread over a few sessions. But those hours pay you back every single week after. Skip that part, and you'll get what everyone else gets. Generic output that sounds like it could belong to anyone. The setup is where your version of this gets built.
The thing I keep coming back to is this: you became a solopreneur because you're good at what you do. Not because you enjoy doing admin. You built a business around your skills, not around processing emails and reformatting documents. AI doesn't change what you're good at. It just takes the other stuff off your plate so you can actually do it.
